Penalties for Multiple DUIs in California
The enhanced consequences you may face for a second, third or subsequent DUI offense are harsh. Their severity will depend directly on the number of DUI offenses you have been convicted of within the past decade.
In the state of California, current penalties for multiple DUIs can involve probation, alcohol classes or counseling, and fines of up to $1,000. In addition, a second offense may result in license suspension for two years and 96 hours to one year in county jail. A third offense may bring a driver’s license suspension of up to three years and four months to one year in county jail. A fourth offense could result in a license suspension of up to four years and six months to three years in county jail or state prison, depending on the specifics of your situation.
Protect Your Rights and Your Freedom
If you have been charged with DUI and already have a prior drunk driving conviction, you could be facing years without a driver’s license and time in jail. Your job, your living situation and your personal relationships could be at stake. You cannot afford to risk life as you know it.
Although we diligently work to have the charges against you dismissed, this is not always possible. If a conviction is inevitable, we will work with prosecution in an effort to secure an alternative sentencing option that may keep you out of jail and allow you to live your life as normally as possible.
